For the past decade, it has been a huge misconception that “Carbs make you fat”. If you believe this I would stop now because what I’m about to tell you may shock you.

I use to fall into all the hype. Thinking carbs would make me fat or would “hurt my gains”, but the truth that it’s rather the opposite. You need carbs for fat loss and you need carbs for building muscle. I repeat, you need carbs for fat loss and you need carbs for building muscle. Without them you can’t stimulate protein synthesis. In fact, without them you would die.

First of all, if you are sure what carbs are or what they do then don’t worry. They are not bad for you…Carbs are stored in the liver, brain, blood and muscles as glycogen. Your body uses carbohydrates, as its primary source of energy. You get carbs from Fruits, vegetables, grains, and everything you crave if you’ve ever tried a low-carb diet.

What happens when you don’t eat them?

Diets low in carbohydrates lack sufficient amounts of essential nutrients. When you follow these types of diets you may not get enough vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

Yes, I know I say you should watch your caloric intake to prevent weight gain. But you should also consume a diet rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Most healthy diets will contain at least 30–60% of calories from carbohydrates. Diets severely restricted in carbohydrate may be low in components that you need.

For example, diets low in grain products are likely to be low in B vitamins and minerals. Whole grains are also rich sources of potassium and fiber. Low-fat or fat-free milk and yogurt are excellent sources of calcium, protein and riboflavin. Vegetables and fruits are rich sources of vitamins, minerals and fiber.

5 reason you should eat more carbs

1.Brain function

Low-carbohydrate diets may adversely impact cognitive ability. Your brain cells need two times more energy than the other cells in your body. Neurons are your “brain cells” that communicate with each other. They have a high demand for energy because they’re always in a state of metabolic activity. Even during sleep, neurons are still at work to repair and rebuild worn out structural components.

Glucose is the form of carbohydrates that travels in your bloodstream to fuel your brainpower. This fuel also causes you to move and stay motivated. And it’s the only fuel normally used by brain cells. Neurons cannot store glucose so they depend on the bloodstream to deliver a constant supply of this precious fuel

2.Results

Not only will carbohydrates increase the fullest of your muscles, but they will also increase your strength. In scientific purposes, this is also known as Carbohydrates Catabolism. The breakdown of glucose help’s supply the body with ATP. The more ATP, the more strength you will have

3.Energy

As previously mentioned, carbs are the body’s primary source of energy. Carbs supplement energy to everything in your body. Like the When you deprive yourself of carbs, your body is then forced to find it elsewhere. The only other two options it can use for fuel is fatty acids (fats) and/or amino acids (proteins). These are not the safest options for energy as their primary role is responsible for something else.

4. Happiness

Your body can create a Psychological dependency for carbs because of the positive effects they can produce. We know that eating carbohydrates raises neurotransmitters like serotonin. Serotonin is responsible for mood, sexual desire, appetite, sleep, memory, temperature regulation, and social behavior. That explains why you might be moody if you don’t consume enough carbs

5. Taste

Lets be honest carbs taste so good whether it is simple or complex both forms taste awesome!

The bottom line is that carbs should equate to at least 30-60% calories in your diet. There are only a couple circumstances when a low carb diet is ok. If you’re prepping for a bodybuilding show or fitness photo shoot, then you should reduce your carb intake. This has to do with the amount of water carbohydrates retain. When you consume carbs, your body inevitably holds more water.

Carbs are not evil…

While it’s true that lower carb diets provide many health benefits and can help with weight loss, low carb does not mean no carbs… When you’re training and exercising, your body needs carbohydrates for fuel. And if you’re trying to shed body fat or gain muscle, carbs are an essential part of the equation.

So enjoy your carbs. Eat them based on your activity level, and your personal preferences. But no matter what, don’t just assume a food is bad (or makes you fat) because it’s a carbohydrate. If you do, then you’re setting yourself up for a huge disaster.
